Research Power Brown Bag  — Design by Data
November 21 at noon
CTL (Pratt Library, 2nd Fl)

Every time we are on our phones, seen by a camera or we take the subway we are unknowingly contributing to the ever growing data being collected. As the forces shaping our environment are rapidly changing with this availability of real time spatio-temporal information, the way we conceive and interact with urban environments change as well. From marketing to governance many fields have already started to exploit the new possibilities. As designers are we ready?

As the popular discussion around data focuses on the privacy issues, organizations like SAVI are using data and analytics for advocacy and betterment of communities and urban spaces while exploring different possibilities for what data can do. Can will talk about his experiences from working with government institutions on data mining projects and social media marketing analytics to SAVI’s advocacy work.

Can Sucuoglu, Interim Director, Spatial Analytics and Visualization Initiative (SAVI)
