Icebreakers are short activities, usually at the beginning of the semester, that provide an opportunity for students to get to know each other and begin forming a community. Icebreakers range from simple questions, course-related prompts to more structured activities.
In an online settings, icebreakers are especially important as they promote social presence and a sense of connectedness. Faculty can use various tools or technologies, or just simply rely on the LMS/Zoom for simple asynchronous or synchronous icebreakers.
